I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) with experience providing individual, group, family, and couples therapy. I have worked in a variety of settings including inpatient psychiatric hospitals, partial hospitalization programs, an intensive outpatient program, mobile crisis outreach team, community mental health agencies, as well as non-profit organizations. I have experience working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families.
I was born and raised in South Texas in the Rio Grande Valley. Once I began high school, I started to notice a deficit of mental healthcare professionals in the area. At the age of 15, I decided to pursue a degree in psychology and took my first college-level psychology class. I continued my education at the University of Texas at San Antonio where I graduated with Tier II honors with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. I also completed an undergraduate thesis focusing on the relationship between personality traits and conflict tactics in Mexican American college students. I continued my education, receiving a Master's in Community Counseling, also from the University of Texas at San Antonio, in 2010. I completed a master's thesis with a focus on the perceptions of online counseling in the lesbian population as mitigated by factors such as location, phase of identity development, degree of outness, internet use, and demographic factors.
As a member of several minority groups, I both understand and appreciate what it means to struggle. My goal is to help those who don't have a voice find theirs and help those who would otherwise not seek therapy for a fear of judgment. I currently work with individuals including adolescents & adults. I specialize in working with the LGBTQIA+ community, particularly the transgender community, as well as with life transitions, issues of identity, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, PTSD & trauma, and grief and loss, although I have experience in a wide variety of issues.
I draw from a variety of therapeutic models such as dialectical behavior therapy, creative therapies, psychodynamic therapy, client centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused therapy. I also integrate aspects of art, creativity, and music in my practice and will tailor my approach to your strengths to find what will best work for you.
